New Jersey has quite a reputation amongst all the states in this great nation. So many clichés come to mind with you think of New Jersey. For instance, when I think of Jersey boys I think of spiky hair, popped collars and neck bling. Jersey girls on the other hand I think of tramp stamps, lots of attitude and ladies who have perfected the lost art of tanning. I know many people from New Jersey, none of which fit any of the descriptions above, but as prefaced- these are clichés.
So here at The Kiwi Tree we have chosen to bring awareness to the all of the great things about New Jersey. In honor of “Be Nice to New Jersey” week (July 5 – 11), we give you the top ten reasons why we LOVE New Jersey.
Number 10- Drive-thru windows. In 1762, the first drive-thru window was established at Seven Stars Tavern in Salem County. Wow. Just think where we’d be without the drive thru window? Possibly ten pounds lighter…
Number 9- The Garden State. When I think of New Jersey, I think of lush gardens of flowers, vegetation, nothing but nature… Yeah. Sure that’s what I think of when I think of New Jersey…
Number 8- Carmela Soprano. Being the unofficial (albeit fictional) first lady of New Jersey, she had what looked to be everything- beautiful house, furs, expensive jewelry. But being the wife of a mobster had it’s drawbacks… dealing with gangsters, violence and competing with your hubby’s goomar. That was one tough broad.
Number 7- Baseball. Hoboken, New Jersey is the official birthplace of baseball- America’s favorite pastime. Is there anything better than drinking a beer, eating a hot dog and watching men run around in tight pants?
Number 6- Gasoline. Did you know in New Jersey they don’t ever have to pump their own gas? In fact, it’s illegal. They only pump their fists.
Number 5- The Real Housewives of… Ahhh, the joys of watching grown women behaving badly. Thank you Dina, Jacqueline, Caroline, Danielle and Teresa. I want to skin you all and wear you like last year’s Versace.
Number 4- Beer. The first brewery in America opened in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1642. I can honestly say that my life wouldn’t be the same without beer. In fact, I most likely wouldn’t have met my husband. But I digress…
Number 3- Jon Francis Bongiovi, Jr. Or as we all know him – Jon Bon Jovi. I can’t even think of what my adolescence would have been had I not been Livin’ on a Prayer.
Number 2- Jersey Girls. Gotta love those Jersey girls. You don’t ever have to wonder what they’re thinking because chances are they’re going to tell you.
And Number 1- Be Nice to New Jersey Week! Because of “Be Nice to New Jersey” week starting next week, we thought we’d be nice too. We’re offering FREE SHIPPING to everyone July 5 – 11 in honor of the Garden State. During these dates just enter the code KTLVESNJ at checkout.
What can we say? Fuggedaboutit.
